Riding the steeps - Intemann Trail

It's fun to change up rides. Even though it seems like Colorado Springs and company has laid more mountain trails than roads sometimes you feel like you're exhausting your options.

The plan was to start at Red Rock Open Space, connect with and loop Section 16, then head back and play at the parking lot with the teeter totters and new jumps that were put in this year. When we hit the intersection with Section 16 we decided to wander instead down Intemann and see if that held anything fun. Good idea. A few rocky technical spots but the real fun was the steepness, Section 16'esque. We rode it to the Crystal Park gate then on up one of the mountains, climbing switchbacks until we hit private property and had to turn around. It appears that Manitou may have plans to open that area to the public so that you can connect from Red Rock Open Space all the way to the Cog Railway parking lot. That'd be a sweet ride.

I don't know if you knew this already, but there is more of the Intemann Trail that does go over to Ruxton. Next time, when you get to Crystal Park Road, turn right and cruise down the road. On the final curve a block before you're about to get down to Manitou Ave, turn left and go up instead of continuing down to Manitou Ave. I forget the name of that street, but go up it until it dead-ends into the Manitou cemetary. Continue into the cemetary, and at about the middle you'll see the Intemann Trail pick up to your right. This trail goes along the backside of Manitou all the way over to Ruxton, near the Depot. There's one section, near Pawnee Ave, where you'll have to ride about a block on a city street, but then pick the trail back up and away you go... Some nice riding on this section of the trail.
